Understand the Differences Between Talent and Skill
1. Talent is a gift—skills are learned. Having talent means you have an aptitude for a given activity or vocation. In basketball, you can usually count the number of “true superstars” on one hand.
2. Skills are obtained through proper training and knowledge. Skill improves talent. Talent without skill is unreached potential.
3. There are many who are gifted with the talent and athleticism to play basketball. But training in the skill of shooting is not emphasized enough in the basketball community. Shooting flaws (woes) magnify with age when they go uncorrected.
4. Many players can get by on their talent for a time, but as one advances to better competition, athletic dominance is difficult to maintain as players with similar physical gifts become more of the norm.
